This scene is witnessed daily at Markaz-ul-Quran wa Sunnah during Sehri and Iftar. Nearly 1,500 to 2,000 people benefit from Sehri and Iftar facilities here every day. These guests are hosted just as warmly as guests welcomed into one’s own home.
Markaz-ul-Quran wa Sunnah is truly a manifestation of passion transformed into reality. A few years ago, this project began with a mosque in a single hall built on one kanal of land. Alhamdulillah, it has now expanded to nine kanals. During this time, many departments have been established, all progressing successfully toward their goals. Undoubtedly, the credit for this tremendous effort goes to our dear brother Hisham Elahi Zaheer and his dedicated team—among whom you are also included.
The voice of truth rising from this mosque is no longer confined to its four walls. Through effective use of modern media, it is now heard across the world. Whether among the general public or decision-making elites, the voice of intellectual freedom from this pulpit can no longer be ignored. Numerous cases and decisions reflect guidance originally presented here.
This department is truly the crown jewel of the institution. Children memorize the Quran through an excellent method, without corporal punishment or harming their self-respect. Alongside memorization, strong emphasis is placed on character building. One teacher is assigned to every fifteen students. All students are local; there is no hostel facility. More than fifteen teachers are employed. Rather than running on a purely charity-based model, reasonable fees are taken from well-off families, which helps support deserving students.
Nearly 1,200 to 1,500 people eat three meals daily here. An eight-marla fully equipped kitchen has been built adjacent to the institution. Hafiz Hisham Elahi Zaheer and his friends personally oversee and manage this arrangement with great dedication and effort.
This is one of the most important projects of the institution and a result of Hafiz Hisham Elahi Zaheer’s visionary thinking. Within just three years, the school has become self-sustaining. Principal Raqib Naeem is managing it with modern educational methods. The school emphasizes not only education but also character development. When it was launched, Hisham Elahi Zaheer withdrew his own children from some of the city’s most expensive schools and enrolled them here. Success was inevitable. A detailed introduction of the school was published in a column by Nawai Waqt columnist Amber Shahid.
Several welfare initiatives are successfully operating:
A high-quality water filtration plant costing approximately 2 million rupees has been installed for the local community.
Large-scale animal sacrifices are performed during Eid-ul-Adha, and meat is distributed among the poor.
Hundreds of worshippers are served meals every Friday.
A small hospital project is under construction.
A dedicated ghusl (funeral washing) room has been built with fine stonework. Funeral services are provided free of cost, without sectarian discrimination.
It is an unfortunate reality that while women are responsible for nurturing generations, their own religious education is often neglected. Last year, Hisham Elahi Zaheer purchased one kanal of land adjacent to the center exclusively for women. A four-story women’s mosque and madrasa has been established, offering various Quranic and religious courses. It may be one of the largest institutions for women in Lahore.
A new building includes a large media center, which was already active but is now being further modernized. A spacious library is also under construction.
One of the most remarkable initiatives is providing monthly stipends to needy and retired scholars—those who dedicated their youth to serving Islam but are often left unsupported in old age. This support has continued consistently for the past several years.
Previously, scholars were often targeted with false cases by misquoting their speeches, forcing them into legal hardships. To address this issue, a committee was formed at the center. It is currently handling over 200 mosque-related cases nationwide. Its efforts have protected many oppressed scholars and mosques.
Ramadan is treated like a VIP guest. Worshippers and fasting individuals are honored with exceptional hospitality. Taraweeh prayers, lectures, tea, sweets, dates, and meals create a vibrant spiritual atmosphere. In the last ten days, over 100 men and 100 women observe Itikaf here. Renowned scholars conduct educational and spiritual training courses. The center becomes like a thriving city of worship.
The Fatwa Committee has played a vital role in guiding the community on contemporary issues. For the first time in Pakistan’s history, unanimous fatwas by leading scholars were published in print last Ramadan. This fulfilled a long-held vision of Allama Ehsan Elahi Zaheer (رحمہ اللہ).
A grand complex is nearing completion to prepare 100 students annually for competitive examinations, providing hostel and meal facilities.
The mosque courtyard and women’s hall are available for small wedding ceremonies, helping families avoid expensive marriage halls. Even members of Hisham Sahib’s own family have held wedding events here.
Ramadan is approaching—a month when Muslims increase their charity and zakat. We appeal to you to support this noble institution. This Ramadan, an additional four kanals of land are planned to be acquired, creating space for 1,600 more worshippers. The cost per prayer space (approximately 8 square feet) is 60,000 PKR. If 1,600 individuals contribute, this goal can be achieved.
Such a large institution cannot operate without your support. Please allocate a significant portion of your zakat, sadaqah, donations, Sehri/Iftar contributions, fidyah, and fitrana here. Every penny is spent responsibly, and even the administration contributes personally.
